Incorporating seismic devices into structures is typically equated with increasing performance of the structure should there be an earthquake, and for good reason. The post-quake savings of investing in seismic technology is well documented. Less well-known are the potential construction cost-saving benefits that seismic technologies can bring when compared to more conventional structures. This is particularly true in mass timber structures which are relatively brittle and lacking in ductility cf. concrete and steel structures.
